Week Highlights! Week 6

Hello everyone,  This week has been very busy for me, for me the year feels like it's going really fast with Coronavirus and everything that goes along with that. Here are the highlights for this week! ○ As a classroom, we got the "thumbs up" for camp, which is really good, I am so excited about it! I am also really eager to find out whos group I am, and finding out who is in my bunk room. ○ Cantamaths, I think things are coming together. I am doing a Motif, which I will start next week. I am also doing a game with Greta, and Cerise ( my friends )! The board game is coming together well, and we have finished our painting and are moving on to printing and laminating cards for our game, I am very excited to see the finishing product! ○ Bread making - Last week we made bread, in our lit circle groups. Hello everyone, This week we have started on Lit circles! This has been very fun because I got one of the choices I chose. I chose This Land We Call Home and I got that choice. It is a couple weeks later and I have done tasks and have had meetings with my group. I really like Lit Circles because I am able to read and with my book, I am able to learn about history!  Here is a photo of the book I am reading> So far I am really liking this book. It is very exciting. It's about Pearl Harbour and its also about friendship. I really recommend it. Thanks for reading - Ruby S

Tanka Poem!

Hello everyone, Last week I posted a blog post about my personification poem. But this week I am posting about a new poem. I enjoyed learning about Tanka poem, this was a very different task to a personification poem. For this poem, you need to have 5 lines. For the first line, it is five syllables, for the second line, it is seven syllables, for the third line it is 5 syllables, for the fourth line it is seven syllables, and for the fifth line, it is seven syllables. Here is the Tanka poem I produced: Toucan The toucan screeched loud,  the toucan flew very high. It flew to Rome city, It saw all the sights of Rome, It wanted to stay but could not. Army The soldier stood tall, He was proud of his great job. He loved saving lives And fighting for his country. He was filled with joy and pride! Forest Poem!

Image
Hello everyone, This week as a class we made poems. The task was to make one about a forest. I felt that by looking at a few examples I was ready to go! This was a very fun task to do. I went into it trying to make my forest sound as sad and lonely as I could. Writing the poem I actually felt bad for poor forest I was writing about, it was also very creepy and gave me chills down my spine. Here is my poem! The Forest The forest creaks as it awakens, If you enter the forest you will be shaken. The twisty trees twist till you can not breathe, when the twisty trees stop it will make you heave. The leaves will cry for help, as their misery can not be helped when they yelp. The wolves will not howl any more, As their howls are tired out forevermore. When you enter this forest you will feel deep in sadness,   It used to be great but now it is badness. The sorrow of this forest lies forever in the darkness, deep in despair, the forest wait...

SPORTS DAY!

Hello everyone, On Friday as a school, we had a sports day. For the sports day, we got to dress up as our favourite sports person or in sport team colours. I dressed up in a crusaders top and some all blacks track pants. For the sports part of it, we did lots of different sport rotations. The sport rotations were hockey, netball, gaga dodge ball, and teball! My favourite sport we did was hockey, I liked hockey because the people running it showed us drills and we played a game of hockey also. Here are some photos of me playing some of the sports... Descriptive writing

Image
Kia ora, Throughout lockdown school and in normal school we have been focusing on descriptive writing. I think I have definitely improved in metaphors and in hyperboles, smilies, personification and many more. Here is my newest descriptive writing piece..... “Slurp” was the sound of the giraffe placing his purple tongue on his mango ice-cream. When he dipped his tongue on to the luscious ice-cream his heart leapt around his lungs with so much joy! He had never been filled with so much happiness before. His tongue would not let go of the ice-cream as he never wanted this feeling to end, so his tongue looked stuck to the ice-cream like glue. The giraffe was mindfully thinking of what was in front of him.  The children were so glad that the “eternity long line” was worth the long wait to see the giraffe eating ice-cream! The icy feel of the ice-cream on a hot summers day was just melting the giraffe down to his knees thinking about it. The giraffe curled his purple tongue aro...

Back to School!

Hello everyone, I am now back to school. I am enjoying it very much! It is really good to be back with my friends! This week we have been just fixing up the work that we did in lockdown, also we presented our inquiry on oceans. It was very nerve-racking to present, but I just had to get up there and present all my amazing knowledge that I had worked hard on! We are also keeping on track with mindfulness and hui. The classroom is a bit different though, we are split onto 2 sides.... luckily I am with my friends. Being split onto 2 sides mean the teachers have to talk in the middle of the room so the 2 sides can hear. Here is my opportunities and challenges during the lockdown: Opportunities More time to keep fit Catching up on school Learned how to play croquet I had time to try out some experiences I had time to try new art I learned new skills I got to cook dinner for the family I got to try out things I have never done before I taught my dog how to skateboard  ...
