South Sudan Talk

Image
Hello everyone, On the 21st March we, The Batten Team had a talk to some people who live in South Sudan and are missionaries in South Sudan. They are called Phill and Janet. So I will tell you about the facts I learned from there amazing experience. The capital is Juba, Juba is so hot, Juba's water is filtered, Nile river runs through South Sudan, the water is salty, 1 road, unsafe to travel on the road, Toilets are just a hole in the ground, Kids swim in the Nile river, crocodiles are in the Nile river, there are electric fish in the Nile river, Water is very deep, South Sudan there are 65 languages, it takes a long time to build a house, doors are so low you have to crawl, they plaster houses with mud, rooms are very dark to keep it cold, schools are made of concrete, 100 dollars in South Sudan is  30 cents in NZ, pounds not dollars .   In South Sudan, to them, cows are really special and this is what they look like! Thank you for reading! Ruby

Swimming Sports

Image
Hello everyone, This is a little bit of what I was feeling before in and after my races. My heart was beating waiting to dive I could feel my goosebumps tingling as I was about to dive off the block at Swimming sports. On YOUR MARKS....... get SET! ..... BANG. Off I go into The pool SPLASH! I felt like I did a sharp dive into the pool I was confident that I would get a placing. All I needed to do was put my game face on and go faster. I hit the wall and did a tumble turn. Now I have got my game face on and am ready to freestyle to the end I touch the wall BAM! I am feeling the vibrant energy. Looking around I felt confident and not at all nervous I was proud I finished the race even if I do not get a placing! When the whistle blew I hoped out of the water I get handed a 3rd place card I am so happy! I got into the finals race I am so excited and the tiniest bit nervous But I know I am going to finish my finals race it does not matter if I do not get a placing Here is a photo of m

Learns NZ Webinar Water

Image
Hello everyone, (Up the top is a picture of us listening to the people on the screen teaching us about waterways) This morning the Batten team went onto the Learns Nz Webinar live on camera. We got to ask questions and listen to other peoples questions. We learned about the waterways, water, and drains. They talked about The pollution traps so that rubbish can't get into the river. We learned that groundwater never ends. If I was a farmer I would not use as much fertilizer and if I had a river that I looked after I would keep animals of mine away from the river making sure no animal dung got into the river. It was very good listening to them because I learned a lot of new information! It was very interesting and helpful.

Hello everyone, Yesterday half of my school went to the Hethcote river to learn about Eels. First, we thought about our actions and touched some Eels. Next, in pairs, we tried to find invertebrates in a big container once you found an invertebrate you would scoop it up into a smaller container and put it there. We also did some artwork Here are some pictures of what I did and saw
